My VoyagerPerth Institute of Contemporary ArtsPerth, WA, Australia1 - 25 September, 2005My Voyager at PICA was an exhibition that brought together a number of major sculptures, installation and projection-based works from the previous two years. The works primarily appropriate objects and images from the NASA Space Program as a means of examining ideas of truth, proof, faith and experience. With key works including life-size reproductions of the Voyager Space Probe and the Apollo Lunar Rover, the exhibition presents objects that are immediately recognisable but which we will never ‘actually’ experience. In seeking to 'undigitise' these familiar yet strange images taken from the Internet, Hennessy reverses the increasing virtualisation of physical things and experiences. By 're-enacting' space travelling, scientific and military objects in plywood, galvanised steel and canvas, the artist creates 'stand-ins' that allow the viewer to contemplate their physical, symbolic and historical resonances as well as the political processes that they represent.
